We make TopDock. What we say about Wavebox is kept general and based on its public website as of October 2026. Check wavebox.io for its current features, platforms and prices.
The short version
Wavebox is a browser built for work: it runs your web apps (Gmail, Outlook on the web, Slack, docs and many more) and organises them into groups with their own tabs and notifications. If your whole day is web apps, it's a powerful way to keep them in order.
TopDock isn't a browser. It's a small Windows app that talks to Gmail, Outlook, X and Reddit directly and shows a badge per inbox in a slim bar. You read and answer in a compact panel, then it gets out of the way.
At a glance
| TopDock | Wavebox | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A bar with a tile per inbox and a drop-down panel | A Chromium-based browser organised around web apps |
| How it shows your mail | Its own compact view, built on the official Gmail, Outlook, X and Reddit APIs | The full web app, as you'd see it in a browser |
| Services | Gmail, Outlook, X, Reddit, LinkedIn posting, todos | Almost any web app; see Wavebox's site |
| Where it lives | Docked at the top of the screen; never covered by windows | A browser window with a sidebar |
| Built for | Glancing, replying fast, and closing it again | Doing your work inside many web apps |
| Weight | A small bar that checks every few minutes | A browser running each app you open |
| Sign-ins and data | Tokens in Windows Credential Manager, no TopDock server | See Wavebox's privacy policy |
| Platforms | Windows 10 and 11 | Several desktop platforms; see Wavebox's site |
| Price | Not announced yet | See Wavebox's pricing page |
Where Wavebox is the better fit
- You work in many web apps all day and want them out of your personal browser.
- You need every feature of the real Gmail or Outlook web app, not a compact view.
- You want Slack, Teams, Notion or similar tools in the same place as your mail.
- You're not only on Windows.
Where TopDock is the better fit
- You want to check mail and social mentions without opening a browser at all.
- You'd rather see "Work 3, X 5" in a thin bar than switch to another window to look.
- You want a light app that stays out of the way, with pop-ups off unless you ask.
- You like turning messages into todos with one key.
Can they work together?
Yes. Some people keep a workspace browser like Wavebox for deep work in web apps and use TopDock as the early-warning bar on top. TopDock syncs read status and archiving back to Gmail and Outlook, so what you clear in one shows as cleared in the other.
What about Shift and Rambox?
Shift and Rambox sit in the same family as Wavebox: they bring your web apps and accounts into one desktop window. The same comparison applies. They're about where you do your work; TopDock is about how quickly you can check and leave. Our overview of Windows inbox apps covers the whole range.
